UVFFA members have been very busy this summer.
In Batavia, Zayne Dibbell represented at the State Tractor Driving competition, placing 6th in the state after successfully completing all six components of competition. Zayne had to operate a skid steer, large tractor and four wheel wagon, and smaller tractor and manure spreader through safety checks and obstacle courses in the shortest amount of time. He also had to properly identify over 60 parts, switches, and levers on a tractor as well as successfully completing a 75 question safety test.
Also traveling to Batavia, Isaiah Salimbangon competed in the state welding competition where he placed 14th in the state. Isaiah had to complete three welding joints - butt, overlap, and fillet, using both stick welding and mig welding. He also had to cut a perfect circle with a hand held plasma cutter and cut a line using an oxyacetylene torch and identify all parts of the oxyacetylene rig as well as adjust the pressure in both tanks. Isaiah was also required to pass a 25 question safety test.
At the New York State Fair the UVFFA Horse Evaluation team made up of Sarina Bell, Sophia Bell, Wade Law, and MaKenna Stage judged 6 classes of horses, having to give reasons for their placing for two classes. This first time team also completed a team tack and breed identification as well team problem solving activity where they had to present their solution verbally to a judge.
Taylor and Adrienne Hodge competed in the NYS FFA Dairy Handlers activity where they had to show a cow and a calf they had never handled and show their ability to control the animal. Both Taylor and Adrienne were selected to the final round. Taylor placed 4th and Adrienne finish 2nd place overall, making them eligible to compete at The Big E - Eastern States Expo against FFA members from 15 other states on Saturday, September 14.
