Social media security

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are reaching out to bring attention to ongoing concerns regarding social media usage among our 7th and 8th-grade students. Recently, there have been multiple incidents of students creating social media posts featuring other students. We have addressed these concerns at school and will continue to do so; however, we also encourage parents to discuss responsible social media use with their children at home.

School Response:

  • Mr. Coyle has shared that there will be consequences for students identified as creating inappropriate pages or posts.

  • When possible, we report these pages; however, social media platforms do not always remove content swiftly.

How You Can Help:
We ask that you monitor your child’s social media activity and encourage respectful online behavior. Students may be using platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram Reels.

Consider the following:

  • Monitor Activity: Regularly review your child's social media interactions.

  • Privacy Settings: Ensure their accounts have appropriate privacy controls.

  • Open Dialogue: Encourage conversations about their online experiences and the potential impact of their actions.

  • Age Restrictions: Be aware of age requirements for platforms; many require users to be at least 13 years old.

  • Digital Etiquette: Remind them not to post content about others without consent and to avoid engaging with harmful material.

By working together, we can foster a safe and respectful environment both online and in our school community. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Sincerly,

UV Jr./Sr. High School
