Over the weekend the robotics team with a donation from Chobani participated in Canstruciton at the Southside Mall. The team built structures out of food containers, that will later be donated to the food pantry.
From the team: "The team was approached by the building Principal to pursue the building a structure for the Canstruction event at Southside Mall. The Principal helped make the connection with Chobani. After a night of brainstorming, a member of the team mentioned snail and it stuck. Then we were racing to figure out how to build with yogurt containers. There were difficulties unique to the materials because we could not use full yogurt because of the risk of spoilage. Without ballast it was hard to build, almost impossible to build overhangs. We prototyped and tested designs till a member of the team found a pattern of interlocking ups and downs. Then things came together quickly. We found after building we were at half of our original estimate. So, we built two!
Finally, the names of the snails come from our building plans. It developed naturally as we spent hours practicing the build. I hope you enjoy Pixel and Turbo as much as we did tackling this Canstruction problem."
