Board of Education Approves Capital Project for Public Vote
The Unadilla Valley CSD Board of Education on Sept. 21 approved putting forth a capital project this fall to voters that is designed to enhance student learning spaces, improve school safety, shore up the school building for the future and enhance our athletics and overall community experience.
The project is expected to be just shy of $25 million and would not include an increase in the tax levy if approved by voters on Monday, Nov. 23. Voting will be held from noon to 8 p.m. at the Community Gym entrance to the building on the south side of campus.
The proposed project was developed through the work of the district’s Facilities Committee, which held public meetings, and received input from community stakeholders during the course of the 2025-26 school year. It was also developed under consultation with the district’s long-term financial planning firm.
Key features of the project include:
- Auditorium renovations
- Library Cafe/Learning Commons
- Pole barn to serve as an Agricultural Education Center
- Cafeteria floor replacement
- Upgrades to the Family & Consumer Science Classroom
- Modernizing bathrooms in Storm Alley, while retaining current male/female layout
- Improving security at school entrances and interior doors
- Fire alarm and security system upgrades
- Water bottle filling stations
- Paving of the bus loop, as well as north and south parking lots
- Bus garage overhead and exterior door replacements, as well as a bus lift
- Greenhouse repairs
- Baseball and softball field relocation and improvements
- Tennis court relocation and improvements
- Running track resurfacing
“This proposed capital project balances investments in student learning, enhanced school security, infrastructure preservation, and athletics, while remaining within the Board of Education’s target budget,” Superintendent Brenton Taylor said. “The project addresses UV’s highest priorities, protects taxpayer investment and positions our school district to serve our students and the community well in the future.”
The capital project will be tax-neutral for district residents. Through the use of New York State Building Aid, existing debt retirement, and long-term financial planning, Unadilla Valley would complete these improvements without increasing the local tax levy.
